On Tuesday, May 8, at 5:30pm, the Cincy Blues Society will host the 2012 Cincy Blues Fest Kickoff Party and Press Event at The Drinkery (1150 Main St.) to announce the Main Stage and other line-ups for the 20th annual Cincy Blues Fest.
James Czar, President of the organization, and Mike Wayne, Director of the Fest, will announce the event’s performers, and the special theme for this year’s Friday night showcase stage. “This is our big 20th anniversary,” explains Director Wayne, “and we’re pulling out all the stops – including a party to celebrate the beginning of our festival season!”
19-year old blues prodigy Brian Keith Wallen will perform at the event. Wallen was the winner of the 2011 Cincy Blues Challenge, and represented the Society at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis this past February.
Tuesday, May 8, 5:30pm – 7:30pm
The Drinkery, 1150 Main Street, Cincinnati, OH
The Drinkery was home to the main stage at the 2012 Winter Blues Fest, and will be offering some great happy hour specials for this event. Music will start at 5:30pm, with press announcements at 6:00pm sharp. Then more music! The evening will also include other Society news and announcements, and will take the place of the monthly Cincy Blues Society meeting.
“The Cincy Blues Fest has been a huge success, and this year will be bigger and better than ever,” explains President James Czar. “We’ve raised a lot of money for our Blues in the Schools program, and we’ve entertained hundreds of thousands of people over the years. I’m very proud of what we’ve accomplished and what the Fest team has put together for this historic year.”
The Cincy Blues Society’s “festival season,” starts with the Cincy Blues Stage at the Backyard BBQ Bash, in West Chester (at the VOA Museum), May 19. The stage, produced by the Society, features some of the best bands from past Cincy Blues Challenges, as well as two of our youth bands.
The fest season continues with the 2012 Cincy Blues Challenge (at Germania Park), where 26 of the best local and regional blues acts will compete to play on the Local Stage at the 2012 Cincy Blues Fest, as well as qualify for the International Blues Challenge in Memphis next January.
This year’s Cincy Blues Fest will be held on August 10 and 11, 2012 at Sawyer Point Park. For two decades, the Cincy Blues Fest has drawn fans and families to Cincinnati’s riverfront for music, food, fun, and the best names in the blues.
